Open and Affirming: Some Biblical Issues

February 9, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Join us for an informative talk by the Rev. Dr. John Bracke on some biblical issues around the whole conversation of being open and affirming. He will address the seven biblical texts (sometimes referred to as clobber texts) used incorrectly by some to condemn homosexuality and justify churches’ exclusion of persons who are GLBTQ as well as reflecting on why churches should embrace the challenge of becoming open and affirming.

Rev. Bracke taught Old Testament and congregational leadership and administration at Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis for 28 years before retiring in 2012. During his time at Eden, he served as academic dean for 14 years. An ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, John has served the denomination in both regional and national settings. In retirement he and his wife Mary live in Columbia, MO, where they are members of Columbia United Church of Christ. From 2015-2017 John served as the interim pastor of Columbia UCC.

This is an opportunity to grow in faith and knowledge as we explore these important issues together. We hope you will join us and bring a friend or two.
